                   Osteosarcoma

               of  Temporal Bone

Osteogenic sarcoma of the temporal bone has been reported which was probably induced by previous irradiation.

Although radiation-induced tumours of the temporal bone occur with a very low incidence, their prognosis is extremely poor. The remote  possibility of a late-induced osteosarcoma of the temporal bone must   be kept in mind when deciding upon the most appropriate therapeutic modality for individuals with neoplasms of the CNS and head and neck.

Osteogenic sarcoma of the temporal bone may be associated with Paget's disease of bone or fibrous dysplasia. ChondroOsseous tumours

Secondary tumors involving the temporal bone are comparatively rare.   A case of secondary osteosarcoma presenting in the temporal bone has been reported. The primary lesion was located in the tibia in a patient with Paget's disease.

Mastoid osteosarcoma.Acta Otorrinolaringol Esp. 1998 Jan-Feb;49(1):63-5.

A case of osteogenic sarcoma of the mastoid region of the temporal bone in a 28-year-old male is reported. The rarity of the site is emphasized and the fundamental clinical and therapeutic features are discussed. The literature is reviewed.

Metastatic spread of osteosarcoma to the temporal bone in a patient with Paget's disease: a case report. J Otolaryngol.1992 Apr;21(2):112-4.

Secondary tumors involving the temporal bone are comparatively rare. We report a case of secondary osteosarcoma presenting in the temporal bone which arose from a primary lesion in the tibia in a patient with Paget's disease. To our knowledge secondary osteosarcoma of the temporal bone has never previously been described.

Osteogenic sarcoma of the temporal bone. J Laryngol Otol.1983 Jul;97(7):627-31.

A case of osteogenic sarcoma of the temporal bone is reported. Most probably the sarcoma was induced by previous irradiation. The patient was treated by a wide temporal bone resection, but the tumour recurred three months after operation. The possibility of late-induced osteosarcoma of the temporal bone must be kept in mind when planning the irradiation of tumours of the nasopharynx.
